An outstanding example of a 19th centaury partners desk. This very
large desk (78 inches x 54 inches) is made from solid oak. It has
an 'Antique Finish' old gold, leather writing surface with gilt and
blind tooling surrounded by a 3 inch band of oak with a thumb moulded
edge and canted and rounded corners.
This very substantial partners desk has cantered corners which carried
through to the base of the pedestals, an unusual design detail that
is found only on desks of exceptional quality. It has been recently
sympathetically restored and french polished to enhance the colour
and the figuring of the oak.
The top is fitted with three drawers to each side, two short and
one long. The pedestals are each fitted with 3 drawers to one side
and a cupboard with paneled doors and a shelf to the reverse. They
stand on plinth bases with hidden castors and have attractive paneled
sides both inside and out.
The drawers are all oak lined with hand cut dovetails and raised
rounded mouldings to the edges.
The desk has all the original brass handles and locks.
As with all partners desks and pedestal desks, it is constructed
in three parts for ease of movement and installation.
This is a rare antique partners desk which would add enormous presence
to any office, library or home. A rare opportunity to own a desk of
exceptional quality and size only occasionally seen.
