This unusual Victorian ornate antique partners desk
is made of the best quality mahogany timbers.
It has very unusual carved designs and blind fret carving on the edge of the writing top,
the drawer fronts and the cupboards.
The ornate decoration to all sides of the desk shows it was designed
to be a centre piece of an office or library. It is a very useful
size being almost square, measuring 51 inches x 45 inches, and has
a very substantial feel for a smaller sized partners desk.
The top is fitted with a new black writing surface with gold and blind
tooling surrounded by a 3 inch border of attractively figured mahogany.
The bull nosed edge is carved in a leaf pattern and there are 3 drawers
fitted beneath on each writing side.
The pedestals each have 3 drawers to the front and cupboards to the
reverse which are fitted with two drawers with counter sunk brass
handles.
The cupboards have the original keys for the side fitted locks. The
pedestals stand on platform bases with hidden castors.
The drawers are ash and pine lined and retain their original locks
stamped with the Royal Cypher.
The turned wooden handles are also original to the desk.
This fine
antique Victorian partners desk has a beautiful bright mahogany colour with deeper
tones in the figuring of the timber. The desk has developed a good
patina and is overall a very attractive piece of furniture.
