A well proportioned large
antique partners desk with an old, possibly original, burgundy
writing leather surface. The mahogany timbers are well figured with
an attractive patina and the writing surface is edged with with gilt
and blind tooling. surrounded by a three inch band of mahogany
with a molded edge.
The top has three drawers to each
side and there are three drawers to each pedestal with cupboards to
the reverse. The drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, brass locks
and brass swan-neck handles. The drawer edges are finished with chamfered
molding.
The cupboards, to the reverse, have
have a shelf in each. The pedestals stand on plinth bases with concealed
castors.
As with all pedestal desks, it is
constructed in three sections, top and two pedestals for ease of movement
and installation.
