A rare, and very stylish, burr walnut
antique French partners desk with ebonised mouldings.
It has its original black leather writing surface with blind tooling
surrounded by a 3 inch wide band of figured and burr walnut. The edge
has an ebonised bull's nose moulding with cantered corners. The same
attractive figured walnut veneers are used throughout the desk and
it has a most attractive patina.
The desk is fitted with writing slides to each end extending the
writing surface by 26 inches (64cm). There are three drawers to
either side of the top.
The drawer fronts have, very attractive, highly figured walnut
veneers. They are oak linined, have dovetail joints and unusual
turned wooden escutcheons, for the original key. The key is used
as a handle for this type of desk. The desk drawers have never been
fitted with handles.
The pedestals are are each fitted with three drawers to the front
and cupboards to the reverse. They stand on plinth bases with bun
feet and are of paneled construction to the inner and outer sides.
As as a pedestal desks it is made in three sections the top and
two pedestals, for ease of transportation and installation.
Good quality walnut partners desks are hard to find these days
and this is a very stylish example.
