A rare antique pedestal desk with beautifully
figured mahogany timbers, rounded corners and finished all round
with moulded edges. It has an old attractive cream coloured writing
surface and brass locks and handles.
The desk has recently been restored including french polishing.
This nine drawer mahogany pedestal desk has an inverted break-front
to the kneehole at both front and back. The top is fitted with a
cream coloured, antique finish, hide writing surface with gilt and
blind tooling. This is an old replacement and still in good condition.
It is surrounded by a 2 inch crossband of mahogany with a bull nose
edge and rounded corners.
The top is fitted with three drawers with mahogany linings having
hand cut dovetails. The drawers have an ogee moulding to the front
edges, brass locks and handles, a sign of quality.
The pedestals are fitted with three drawers and stand on plinth
bases with hidden castors. The corners of the pedestals are rounded
on both the exterior and the interior.
The desk is polished all round with frame moldings at the back
to match the front. This is a very unusual feature for a pedestal
desk which would normally have less detail on the reverse. This
is another indicator of the quality of this desk.
As with all pedestal desks it is made in three sections, the top
and two pedestals, which makes for ease of transporting and installation.
