An antique Victorian mahogany partners desk of excellent quality, stamp marked for the London
firm of M. Willson, London.*
This is a fine antique partners desk which would look very impressive in any study or office. It has recently been restored, is made from a beautifully figured mahogany of the type associated with the best Mid 19th Century English furniture.
The desk is a very good size, 5 foot 6 inches (168cm) wide by 3' 9 inches - (77cm) deep,
with a black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. The writing surface is surrounded by a band of mahogany with a thumb molded
edge and rounded corners.
The top is fitted with 3 drawers to either side of the width. The pedestals are each fitted with three drawers to
the front and cupboards to the reverse and stand on plinth bases with
hidden castors. The drawers have mahogany linings the original brass Hobbs Locks (one replacement) ogee moldings to the front with hand made dovetail joints.
The desk is made in three sections, the top and two separate
pedestals, for ease of transportation and installation.
Notes:
*London furniture marked with the makers name has always been desirable and is getting rarer. Desks of this type have always been popular and proved to be good investments in the long term. A similar desk in the West End of London would probably be on sale at a considerably larger sum than this.
