This is a very attractive Antique Victorian walnut
sofa table or writing table of exceptional quality.
Victorian tables of
this type, made of figured and burr walnut, are very rare. The top
has matched veneers which have a spectacular figuring and a thumb
molded edge with rounded corners.
The frieze is fitted with two mahogany lined drawers
with hand cut dovetails and the original brass locks with key.
The drawer fronts have an ogee mould with the original
turned walnut knobs. The reverse of the table has similar blind drawer
fronts and the ends of the table are paneled.
The table stands on bulbous turned and legs and the
original brass castors. The legs are united by a 'barley sugar' twist
stretcher.
The table has a most attractive honey coloured patina
and is of a very serviceable size.
