This beautiful English antique rosewood table is described and illustrated on page 292 of "Gillows of London and Lancaster 1730 - 1840" by Susan E Stuart. This is an identical table to the one illustrated in plate 311 with the exception of the carved feet, and beaded border to the platform bases.
This table has the original bun feet and a rounded quadrant mould to the platform bases.
Recently sympathetically restored it has beautifully figured rosewood top with "egg" carved border. The frieze is fitted with two shallow, mahogany lined drawers with hand cut dovetails. Below the drawers is a 'dot and dash' boarder.
The table stands on turned and reeded end pillars with platform bases, bun feet and the original castors.
The quality of the construction, the timbers used and the identical proportions of this table compared to the one illustrated in the Gillows book leads us to attribute it as a 'Gillows' table despite the missing stamp mark.
